FRP Platforms, Walkways & Stairs
Product Overview
FRP platforms are modular access and maintenance systems assembled from pultruded FRP profiles, FRP grating, guardrails, handrails, and stairways. They provide safe access for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of environmental equipment used in exhaust gas and wastewater treatment.
With excellent corrosion resistance, a high strength-to-weight ratio, slip-resistant surfaces, and electrical insulation properties, FRP platforms are widely used with ammonia stripping towers, scrubber towers, biofilters, and biological trickling filters.
They provide safe working access for equipment inspections, valve operation, and instrument maintenance, making them a reliable choice for chemical processing, wastewater treatment, and hazardous waste treatment facilities.
Working Principle
FRP grating serves as the walking surface, while pultruded FRP profiles, including square tubes, round tubes, I-beams, and channels, form the main and secondary structural beams. FRP guardrails, handrails, toe boards, and stairways are assembled into a complete access and maintenance system.
The platform is designed to support maintenance personnel and the loads associated with small tools and routine servicing. Its corrosion-resistant structure performs reliably in wet and corrosive environments, helping maintain safe access around industrial treatment equipment.
Applications
- Maintenance platforms for environmental equipment in chemical, fine chemical, and pharmaceutical facilities
- Access platforms for towers and equipment at landfill leachate treatment facilities and municipal wastewater treatment plants
- Corrosion-resistant maintenance walkways in electroplating and surface treatment facilities
- Access platforms, ladders, and guardrails for FRP towers in hazardous waste treatment plants
- Inspection platforms for wastewater and exhaust gas treatment equipment in livestock farming and food processing facilities
- Operating platforms for corrosive environments in metal smelting and acid pickling facilities
- Platforms, stairs, walkways, and guardrails for ammonia stripping towers, scrubber towers, biofilters, and biological trickling filters
Key Advantages of FRP Platforms
1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance
FRP resists a wide range of corrosive environments, including exposure to acids, alkalis, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and salt spray, subject to material compatibility. Unlike carbon steel, it does not rust and generally does not require routine anti-corrosion painting.
2. Lightweight Yet Strong
Pultruded FRP profiles offer a high strength-to-weight ratio. Their low weight can reduce structural and foundation loads while making lifting, transportation, and on-site assembly easier.
3. Slip-Resistant Design
FRP grating provides a durable walking surface, with optional anti-slip covers or surface treatments. Its open-grid design allows water and wastewater to drain through, helping reduce water accumulation on the platform.
4. Electrical Insulation
FRP is electrically insulating, making it suitable for wet industrial environments where electrical hazards may be a concern. Appropriate electrical safety measures are still required for the entire installation.
5. Complete, Integrated Supply
A complete system can include structural FRP profiles, grating panels, guardrails, handrails, stairways, toe boards, and connection hardware, providing a convenient one-stop supply solution.
6. Easy Installation
The modular system can be prefabricated and assembled on-site using bolted connections, minimizing the need for welding. Dimensions, platform heights, and load requirements can be customized to suit project specifications.
7. Long Service Life
With suitable material selection and installation, FRP platforms provide durable performance in outdoor, humid, and corrosive environments, helping reduce long-term maintenance requirements.
Operating Conditions and Selection Guide
Recommended Applications
- Maintenance platforms, walkways, stairs, and ladders for wastewater and exhaust gas treatment equipment
- Wet and corrosive environments involving acids, alkalis, and other aggressive chemicals
Available Options
- Standard corrosion-resistant FRP profiles and grating
- Flame-retardant FRP profiles and grating
Important Considerations
- Structural loading: Select profile sizes and structural configurations according to the required loads. Heavy maintenance equipment or concentrated loads may require reinforced structural design.
- Fasteners and connections: Use corrosion-resistant fasteners. Stainless steel hardware is recommended where appropriate for the operating environment.
- High-temperature service: Specialized resin systems and profiles may be required for elevated operating temperatures. Confirm the applicable temperature limits before selection.
